It’s no surprise that CBD is everywhere, because it is known to help reduce things like anxiety and pain. And now, over the past few years, a new product has emerged on the market, CBD for pets.
So how does pet CBD work, and does it even work? Well we are here to break down everything you need to know about CBD for pets, and weigh the options if it is something you should consider giving your furry friend.
As a reminder, CBD, or cannabidiol (CBD) is one of the many active compounds found in the Cannabis sativa plant, which does not contain THC, so it can’t give you that “high” feeling.
With this, much like humans, there are not enough studies to make any true medical claims about what CBD can do for pets. That said, there have been a great deal of observations made about the positive effects that CBD can have on pets. But our experts do say there have been observations made that can potentially indicate that CBD can be known to help pets in different ways!
So why should I consider giving my pet CBD?
Well based on observations made in a recent study, Mark Verdino, MD, senior vice president and chief of veterinary staff at North Shore Animal League America, said that they noticed that pets seemed to be less reactive to low level pain stimuli, for example arthritis and things like that, when they take the product. This is a good thing. That means that the CBD seemed to help reduce pain levels in the dog.
With this, the one thing we do recommend, is making sure that you use pet specific products like our CBD Pet Treats or CBD Pet Drops, just so that you know the concentration is appropriate for pets.
Bottom line? CBD products for dogs – whether oil or in a treat – have been shown to anecdotally help with some issues like pain and anxiety. It’s best to talk with your vet about your dog’s specific issues and heed the doctor’s recommendations, as they could recommend CBD!
